Dress Shirts for Shorter Men
Even the shortest store sleeve, 32/33, usually runs past the wrist on shorter guys. We cut the sleeve and body to you.
Most dress shirts start at a 32" sleeve and are cut long in the body. On a shorter frame, that extra fabric bunches at the cuffs and the tuck.
Where the extra fabric ends up
Store shirts are graded for an average height. The body and sleeve length come with the collar size, whether you need them or not.
Extra body length bunches around your waist once it's tucked in, which makes a fitted shirt look sloppy.
Short of going custom
- Look for brands that sell exact sleeve lengths or offer sleeve shortening.
- Choose slim fits, which tend to be cut a little shorter and closer.
- Have a tailor shorten the sleeves from the shoulder, so the cuff stays intact.
Where we take length out
We cut the sleeve and body to your arm and torso, so the cuff ends at your wrist and the tuck stays flat.
Questions
What is the shortest standard dress shirt sleeve?
Most brands start at 32 or 32/33. Shorter than that usually means alterations or custom.
Can dress shirt sleeves be shortened?
Yes. A tailor can shorten them, ideally from the shoulder so the cuff and placket stay as made.
We take the length out before the shirt is made, not after.
