Dress Shirts for Tall Men

If your shirt untucks every time you reach for something, it's not you. It's built for someone shorter.

On a tall frame, a standard shirt runs short in the body and the sleeve. Sizing up doesn't really fix it, and here's why.

Your collar size comes with someone else's length

Your collar might be a 16, but a 16 is cut for a man several inches shorter than you, with a body and sleeve to match.

Sizing up adds length but also adds width, so you end up with a long shirt that's too big everywhere else.

What to check before you buy

  • Look for "tall" sizing, which adds length to the body and sleeves without changing the collar.
  • Check the shirt length. It should reach past your seat so it stays tucked when you sit and reach.
  • Buy for your sleeve length, not just your collar.
  • Tuck it, then raise both arms. If it pulls out, it's too short.

Where we add the length

A custom shirt is cut to your height. We set the body and sleeve length you need, then cut the collar and chest to what we measure.

Questions

How long should a dress shirt be for a tall man?

Long enough to stay tucked when you sit down and raise your arms, usually reaching past your seat.

Is tall sizing the same as big and tall?

No. Tall sizing adds length. Big and tall adds both length and width, and is usually cut boxier.

Come get measured, and we'll put the length where you need it.
